Our AI Policy

Rainbow Revelry is here to empower and celebrate LGBTQIA+ authors, artists, designers, game devs, crafters, musicians or any other kind of creativity. We believe GenerativeAI (GenAI) takes opportunities away from members of our community and is currently not an ethical tool to use.

We believe that generative AI steals work from creators and uses it without consent or appropriate reward or recognition of the original creator. This goes against everything we believe in when trying to help human creators grow and support themselves.

The environmental impact of GenAI and AI training is also a major concern to us.

Until GenerativeAI works in a way that is based on consent, appropriately rewards & recognises creators whose work it uses, and has substantially reduced its environmental impact we do not support its use for any Rainbow Revelry projects. We do not currently see a path to resolve all of these concerns.

We recognise that some forms of AI classed as 'assistive' do provide value and in the very limited circumstances that these apply we make exceptions. Standard spelling/grammar checking, text to speech for accessibility purposes (with no non-AI alternative), or audio transcription/subtitling where this is not provided by the creator/organiser are some examples.

Until GenAI is creatively, financially and environmentally ethical:

  • We will never knowingly use GenAI in any of our own work. We make every effort to avoid use of AI generated images. We ask that if we do accidentally use one that members of our community inform us so we can remove it as soon as possible.

  • Where possible, we will not work with any supplier/service which uses GenAI to deliver services. Suppliers will be asked to provide a statement of their use of Generative AI at the start of any project.

  • When running giveaways, competitions, grants, sponsorships etc. We will ask applicants to confirm they are not intending to use GenAI. Applicants who have made use of GenAI within the last 3 months will be automatically disqualified from any entry or opportunity offered by Rainbow Revelry. (Including profile banners, profile pictures etc.)
